Google is the largest search engine today that can be used to find a wide range of information. It has become one of the daily needs of today’s humans. Google is not a search engine anymore, it has become a brand. Today, it has become a ‘slang’ commonly used in conversations, e.g. Why don’t you Google it? I think it’s really a big achievement.

History of Google

There were encyclopedias for centuries, but a new idea of search engine covering everything on the internet was born in 1998. With Google, the birth of a new industry of online commerce, digital advertising, social media marketing, cloud computing, software, and hardware solutions took place. Google’s history is an influential story of outstanding entrepreneurialism and dedication.

Evolution of Google

Initially, Google was just about search i.e. a way for users to find answers to their questions.

Google’s mission was “to organize information in the world and make it universally accessible and useful.” However, they also have an information statement i.e. “Don’t be evil.” In 2015, they changed this mission to “Do the right thing.”

In 2001, Google added a search box to enable users to search for anything online.

In 2002, Google introduced AdWords (PPC) third-party advertising platform, which became a large profit center for Google. Also, Google News was released that showed trending stories over the internet.

2003 saw Google’s other initiative, Google Adsense that allowed companies to connect with global advertisers in one click.

In 2004, Google’s revolutionary product — Gmail was launched, which has become an important part of our lives as our home address. Also, Google Map was launched, which was quite basic but had a user-friendly visual interface.

2005 saw the Google video, which was competing with YouTube. Since it was difficult, Google bought YouTube in 2006.

In 2006, Google Calendar and Google Finance were launched.

In 2007, Google added a navigation bar atop that had links to search items and Google Apps. Also, Google Streetview and Google Android came up this year.

In 2007, a more user-friendly search engine Google Chrome emerged, which is widely used since then.

2009 saw a revolutionary search element i.e. Google Voice.

In 2011, the navigation bar was gradually changed to the Google menu that provided a slicker and redesigned UI that could take users to their desired Google application.

2012 came up with Google Voice, through which you can give one phone number to everyone and forward it to multiple phones.

In 2017, Google launched Google Home, which looked quite clean and user-friendly.

Wrapping Up

In the last 20 years, Google has come quite far based on UI design. Today, Google is used in some of the other ways for all kinds of important work from Gmail for communication, SEO for marketing, Google Maps for searching locations, etc. Thus, Google’s history is quite influential and it has evolved brilliantly for the sake of its users.
