How to improve your UX writing skills? — I’ve been hearing this question a lot while mentoring people and also on various UX community platforms. So, I am going to answer this million dollar question today.

Whether you are new into UX writing field or an experienced UX writer, there is always a room for improvement in your skills. So, here are a few tips to improve your UX writing skills.

Tips to improve UX writing skills

  1. Read one blog daily — Invest just 5 minutes a day in reading a blog on UX writing. This will keep you updated on the recent trends on UX writing.
  2. Listen to one podcast or watch a Youtube video day — Make sure you listen to at least one podcast or a Youtube video about UX writing in a day. This will not take more than 15–20 minutes of yours, but add to your UX writing knowledge and skills.
  3. Take UX writing challenge — Either take a UX writing challenge from external sources or create your own UX writing challenge every week. Find a solution to the challenge and yes, don’t forget to follow the right UX writing process.
  4. Keep adding to your knowledge repository — Whenever you see any good microcopy on website, application, or around you, note that down or take a screenshot and add it to your repository as a reference.
  5. Redesign content — Pick existing products or just one flow from a product and redesign or rewrite the content of that flow. This will help you pick the flaws in the flow, improve your design thinking skills, and you can add these case studies to your portfolio as well.
  6. Learn a new tool — Make sure you learn a new tool every week, may it be a design tool, AI tool, or a content tool. It adds value to your experience and skillset.
  7. Spend time on social media — We all spend time on social media, right? But make sure you spend it wisely. Try to connect with UX writers and other UX professionals as it’s a great way to learn and create a connection.
  8. Invest time on community platforms — Post the UX related questions or provide answers to others’ questions on community platforms like Quora. This is a great way of sharing your knowledge with others and gaining knowledge about the stuff that you don’t know.

To improve your UX writing skills, you need to keep learning through reading, watching, sharing, and much more. These are a few tips to improve your UX writing skills.
